My name is Nicola (Nici) Russell.

I am 37, live in Scotland and am a member of ACE Framerunning in Ayrshire.

I have Dystonia.

I am a full time wheelchair user and can't stand or walk unaided. I started Framerunning around 2 years ago as a way to try and keep movement and strength in my legs. I really enjoy the chance it gives me to get out of my wheelchair and try to stay active.

27th August 2023 I completed a Triathlon in New Cumnock, Scotland to raise money for my Judo Club. I was able to use the Framerunner for the 1.5KM Run. I used 1 leg to pedal a recumbent Trike for the bike segment. I also only learnt to swim this year (after battling long water phobia for over 2 years)

My Framerunning coach found a way to safely secure my bad leg up so it doesn't drag and get injured. This allows me to try to run safely with one leg. Framerunning has allowed me to keep using my legs as much as I can in a safe way.

I know there is no standard for entering a Triathlon as a Framerunning athlete but I found the event to be very welcoming and happy for me to take part. I was the only adpative/para entry. It was great to be able to use my Framerunning in a bigger event and I am glad to have finally been able to complete a Triathlon.
